JEWISH CEMETERY RENOVATION
VAN JARINA architecture studio begun to prepare the renovation project in 2017, when commissioned by the municipality as part of the program “Saving cultural heritage together”. The implementation begun in 2023.
The cemetery was destroyed during the war and fell into disrepair for many years.
Before the reconstruction of the tombstone, they could hardly be recognized on the overgrown area full of garbage, many were broken and scattered across the meadow above Vysoka nad Kysucou.
The dominant feature of the cemetery are the boards of Moses, made by the artist Milan Opalka.
The shape of the Jewish Menorah candlestick was the inspiration for the creation of the park composition of the cemetery, where only benches, an information board and a few hawthorns were planted.
The picturesque low fence is finished with a wooden gate.
The project focused on restoring the remaining tombstones, while keeping their original orientation. The remaining tombstones, which could not be identified, were incorporated into the stone wall.
